To have a floor that is ready for vinyl tiles, it's essential to prepare the surface. A new wooden floor will need sanding and sealing before installation. If you're working with an existing concrete or wood floor, be sure to clean it thoroughly and use a primer before applying the tile adhesive. Vinyl tiles are durable but not waterproof, so they won't work well on surfaces with moisture issues such as unsealed concrete slabs that aren't adequately insulated from outside elements like rainwater or groundwater. In colder climates, make sure your subfloor can handle below-freezing temperatures since vinyl tiles don't tolerate frosty conditions without cracking easily.
